We're excited to share that Men's Health recently featured both TAC Medical Director Dr. Evan Blum and TAC co-founder Wes Turner in a  story examining one of the fastest-growing conversations in metabolic medicine: GLP-1 microdosing. The article, "Why Are Fit People Microdosing GLP-1s?", explores a question we're hearing more frequently from patients:

Can GLP-1 medications have benefits beyond weight loss?

Traditionally, GLP-1 medications have been associated with obesity treatment and diabetes management. However, a growing number of healthy, active adults are becoming interested in the role these medications may play in metabolic health, cardiovascular risk reduction, inflammation, blood sugar regulation, and healthy aging.

Looking Healthy Doesn't Always Mean Optimal Health

One of the reasons Men's Health interviewed TAC co-founder Wes Turner is because his story challenges many assumptions about who may benefit from proactive metabolic care.

At 6'1", active, strength training regularly, and completing annual half-marathons, Wes didn't fit the typical image of someone exploring GLP-1 therapy. Weight loss wasn't the goal. However, despite years of exercise and healthy nutrition habits, his blood work told a more nuanced story. His hemoglobin A1C remained in the prediabetic range for nearly a decade, while his cholesterol continued trending upward.

After seeing dramatic improvements in his wife's metabolic markers, Wes decided to take a closer look at his own long-term health trajectory. Working alongside Dr. Blum, he began a low-dose semaglutide protocol focused on metabolic optimization rather than aggressive weight loss. Within months, his A1C dropped below the prediabetes threshold, his cholesterol improved to its lowest level in several years, and he noticed better recovery and endurance during training.

As Wes shared with Men's Health: "My goal is to not be on a statin and keep my overall health systems as optimal as they can be as I move into my 50s and 60s."

For him, the conversation wasn't about the scale. It was about preventing future disease rather than reacting to it.

What Is GLP-1 Microdosing?

While there is currently no universally accepted definition, GLP-1 microdosing generally refers to using doses below traditional FDA-approved therapeutic ranges while maintaining physician oversight and individualized care. At TAC, we've long recognized that not every patient requires the same dose, timeline, or treatment goal.

In some situations, lower-dose approaches may be considered for:

  • Patients who experience side effects at higher doses
  • Long-term maintenance after achieving weight-loss goals
  • Individuals focused on metabolic health markers rather than significant weight reduction
  • Personalized treatment plans designed around unique physiology and goals

The key is that lower dose does not mean less medical oversight.

Why Medical Supervision Matters

One of the most important themes discussed throughout the Men's Health feature is the difference between taking a medication and receiving medical care. GLP-1 medications influence multiple physiologic systems, including blood sugar regulation, appetite signaling, inflammation pathways, and cardiovascular risk factors. They are powerful prescription therapies that should be evaluated within the context of a patient's complete health picture.

As Dr. Blum discussed in the article, patients at TAC undergo comprehensive evaluation, laboratory review, dosing education, and ongoing monitoring throughout treatment. He also emphasized the importance of working with properly licensed and credentialed pharmacies that meet rigorous quality and safety standards. The goal is not simply access to medication. The goal is safe, evidence-based care.

The Future of Metabolic Health

What excites us most about this conversation is that it reflects a larger shift occurring throughout healthcare. For years, medicine has focused on treating disease after it develops. Increasingly, patients are asking how they can improve their health before major problems arise. Research continues to evolve around the broader effects of GLP-1 medications, including their impact on metabolic health, cardiovascular disease risk, inflammation, and healthy aging. While many questions remain, the conversation itself represents an important shift toward proactive, preventative care. At TAC, our philosophy has always been simple: use objective data, individualized care, and evidence-based medicine to help patients make informed decisions about their health. Whether the goal is weight loss, weight maintenance, metabolic optimization, hormone health, or longevity, we believe healthcare works best when it's personalized and proactive. We're honored to have Dr. Blum and Wes featured in Men's Health and proud to contribute to this important national discussion about the future of metabolic medicine.
